Bobcats Belong is set to host Bobcats Riverfest at Sewell Park
SAN MARCOS, Texas, – Feb. 25, 2025 – Bobcats Belong, a non-profit organization focuses on creating a sense of community for all Texas State students struggling with mental health to feel a sense of belonging. They are hosting their first ever Bobcats Riverfest to kick off the rest of the semester that will be hosted on Saturday, March 8th from 11am to 6pm at Sewell Park.
“Society today teaches us to hold in our emotions and to deal with them on our own,” said Riley Price, Bobcats Belong member. “Coming to Texas State alone as a Freshman, I felt that I had no one to go to with the feelings I was experiencing of isolation, homesickness, depression, and anxiety. This all changed one day in the dining hall when I bumped into a girl named Sophie who told me about the Bobcats Belong program. After the first event I attended, I knew I found a community for me and a home away from home where I belonged.”
Kicking off the Bobcats Riverfest will be a performance from the San Marcos local band, Sunny Side. Vendors and activities to look forward to are local business food trucks, yoga sessions, and a volleyball tournament.
“Three years ago, Bobcats Belong was just an idea I had sitting in my dorm room,” said Sydney Byers, CEO of Bobcats Belong. “Now it has become a major fundamental organization on campus for students at Texas State. Bobcats Belong has about 300 members and counting and I believe Riverfest is an amazing opportunity for the school to see just how special the environment is that our community brings. Our goal is to reach as many students as we can who need us and to help them know they are not alone.”
Bobcats Riverfest will be an opportunity not only to enjoy the outdoors but for the community to meet the people who provide the small group activities and therapy services at Bobcats Belong.
